Our approach to the curriculum and curriculum plans

Our Curriculum is divided into 6 themes throughout the year, taught through a skills based curriculum.    Creativity, art and music are important to our curriculum, through which children are also taught problem solving and team work skills.
Topics are flexible and designed to appeal to, and follow the intersts of, the children.
Through teaching all the learning intentions in our topic plan, the National Curriculum is fully covered, as is the local RE Agreed Syllabus and Personal, Social and Health Education.

All our topics are planned to engage the children in a variety of learning styles.  They incorporate “Stunning Starts”, “Marvellous Middles” and “Fabulous Finishes” and include trips and visiting experts to enhance the curriculum and plenty of art, dance, music and performance.

Our Key Stage One curriculum runs on a two year rolling programme allowing for shared topics for Years 1 and 2 without repetition.

If you require any further information please contact us via the school office.

Phonics
At Great Barford Primary Academy we use Letters and Sounds as the basis of our Phonics teaching from Early Years and Foundation Stage and then following on throughout the school.
